Injuries: Was banged up for most of 2016 and decided to sit out his team’s bowl game.

History: Has NFL pedigree, son of Bronco’s great Ed McCaffrey. 4 star recruit out of Colorado. His mother played soccer at Stanford, his older brother football at Duke. Has 2 younger brothers, both ranked nationally in football. Was the Gatorade Football Player of the Year in 2012 and 2013.  Also ran track in High School.

Strengths: Elite quickness (6.57 3 cone drill is the 2nd fastest ever). Can cut on a dime. Elite hands for a back, can even be used as a slot receiver. Deceptively fast with break away speed when hitting the 2nd level. Patient waiting for his blocks. Excellent vision. Can make guys miss at all 3 levels, reminds me a little of Shady McCoy at times. Willing pass blocker, does a nice job of recognizing and picking up blitzes. Protects the ball when in traffic, and keeps his legs churning. Very smart, was a 2016 Academic All-American.

Weaknesses: Only did 10 reps at the combine. Obviously lacks elite size, isn’t running anyone over. Has put a lot of miles on the car over the past 2 seasons. Is very twitchy but not a burner, might have troubler separating in the NFL. Might get steamrolled picking up blitzes from NFL linebackers.

Overview: More than just a complimentary player, McCaffrey is a legitimate weapon that can be moved all over the field. Can make an immediate impact day one, as a runner, receiver, and return man. There’s going to be some teams that view him as the best back in the draft for what they do, others will think he’s just a 3rd down back.

Draft Projection: 1st round pick
