Misc. Stats:

Accolades: 2017 First-Team All-Big Ten, 2018 First-Team All-Big Ten,

Injuries: Fractured his skull and suffered a subdural hematoma, after tripping over a garbage bag on his front step in Junior High.

History: Four-star recruit out of Jefferson Hills, PA. Played Linebacker, Safety, and on offense he was used mostly as a running Quarterback at Thomas Jefferson High School. Only attempted 29 passes his Senior season, carried the ball 115 times. Despite being a lifelong Ohio St. fan he chose Michigan due to his relation with then head coach Brady Hoke.

Strengths: Quick off the snap. 1.57 10 yard split is indicative of good short-area burst. Can get up field in a hurry. Agility and play speed are both above average. Has a little bit of bend in him. Brings a relentless pursuit. Makes plays chasing down the ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage. Has experience lining up on both sides. Motor is non-stop. Excellent football and personal character. Team leader.

Weaknesses: Lower frame is thin and on the weaker side. Balance is a little off. Will have issues stacking the edge at the next level. Could get engulfed by bigger linemen, and might have trouble getting off blocks. Lacks many counters or even pass rush moves at that, more of a go go go guy. Inexperienced standing up as a Rush OLB. Will be a 24 year old rookie.

Overview: Winovich is a relentless edge rusher who plays the game like he’s got something to prove on every play. He was surrounded by a lot of talent at Michigan, but he was the difference maker on that defense. He lacks elite size and length, especially to play in an even front. He may be get some looks there, but probably just as a rush specialist. He should get more interest as a rush LB, despite the inexperience standing up.
