Injuries:

History: Five-star recruit from Hyattsville, MD. Won a State Title his Senior season at DeMatha Catholic. Prior to DeMatha, he spent two seasons at Pallotti High School in Laurel, Md.

Strengths: Prototype edge rusher, who looks the part. Looks to be chiseled out of stone. Great size, length, and frame. Explosive out of his stance. Quick feet, very fluid athlete. Very productive (35 1/2 TFL, 27 sacks, and 8 Forced Fumbles) his final two years. Has a knack for getting his hands up when he can’t get home. Big, strong hands with great grip strength. Rips initial punch, does a great job keeping himself clean. Fluid hips, that he combines with quick feet, becoming a problem for blockers right off the snap. Tremendous range. Has lined up on both the strong and weak sides of the line during his career. Can convert speed to power.

Weaknesses: Inconsistent pad level at times. Lower body strength isn’t great. Somewhat weak anchor in the run game. Needs to harness his upfield attack and not allow lanes to open. Still relies too much of winning early, which limits counter ability. Doesn’t trust his eyes as much as he could.

Overview: Young is the best player in this draft, and should be the first non QB off the board. He’s got ideal size and athleticism and uses his hands very well. The stat sheet might not stand out against Clemson, but he was disruptive and it’s not a fair knock.

Evaluation based on games. PSU 18′, CLEM 19′, WISC (B10 Title Game) 19′.
