History: Five-star recruit from Springfield, MA. Also played basketball at Suffield Academy.
Strengths: Good size. Good get off. Active hands as a pass rusher. Good lateral movement/change of direction skills. Has the ability to stunt around the edge. Motor runs hot. Consistently fighting to get free in pass rush. Has some experience on the edge. Has a good range of pass rush moves, including a nasty swim. Times up the pass well, has had a lot of balls knocked down at the LOS. Excellent character. Smart kid, who graduated in 2 and a half years. Contributed in the community, a guy who owners will love.
Weaknesses: Has trouble getting off blocks, when he doesn’t win off right away. Doesn’t appear to have ideal length. Isn’t the strongest at the point of attack. Can get driven out of his gap by double teams. Can get moved too easily in the run game. Tackle radius is not as long as you’d like. Athleticism is good not great.
Overview: Wilkins is a good one gap penetrating defensive tackle, ideally suited as a 3 technique in a base 4-3. He has good size and quickness, and he’s constantly bringing his all. He doesn’t have the elite athleticism you see from some DTs, and he gets bullied too often in the run game.
