Misc. Stats:

Accolades: 2018 CFB National Champion, 2019 Unanimous All-American, 2019 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, 2019 First-team All-ACC, 2019 Butkus Award

History: Three-star recruit from Olathe, KS. Attended Olathe North High School, where he was First-team All-State on both sides of the ball as a senior. Was also a two-time state champion Long Jumper. Also competed in the Long Jump at Clemson as a freshmen (redshirted in football).

Strengths: Absolutely elite athlete. A weapon that you can put practically anywhere on the field. Range and closing speed are outstanding, can run down most on the field. Height and leaping ability make it a dangerous game going across the middle. When in zone, can take away the middle of the field just by sheer presence alone.Production all over the field. Has a knack for big plays.

Weaknesses: Instincts in coverage aren’t totally there yet. Reaction time can be slightly delayed diagnosing. Angles in pursuit need to improve. Does he lack experience at one true position? Maybe. Transitions could be in an issue against shifty slot guys in the NFL.

Overview: Simmons is a defensive coordinators dream. Some may look at it that he doesn’t have a true position yet, others will look at it like a piece of clay you can mold. To me, Simmons is the latter, I like the idea of moving him around. From day one, he’s a guy that the Quarterback will need to know where is he at all times. A smart defensive coordinator will create specific packages for him and let him run wild.
